The main reason I don't believe they are effective is because they communicate NO information about what to do at the intersection...do they want you to slow down? stop for pedestrians crossing? slow down and continue? I've seen more "near misses" at Belmont Ridge Road and W&OD train because bikers think zigzag lines mean STOP FOR ME but the driver of the car thinks SLOW DON'T STOP. They are a disaster waiting to happen and clearer more communicative signs such as "STOP FOR PEDESTRIANS" or "PROCEED WITHOUT STOPPING" are necessary. Currently, as far as I'm concerned zigzag lines mean, continue going the speed limit and hope that the bikers and joggers on the trail don't expect you to stop.Alex S.noreply@blogger.com
