Route 287 (Berlin Turnpike) to Remain Closed

Update: The Loudoun County Sheriffs Office now reports that Route 287 (Berlin Turnpike) will remain closed in both directions at Morrisonville Road due to downed utility lines from a single vehicle crash. The roadway may be closed for an extended period of time.

  1. The police here are among the rudest and unhelpful I have ever encountered in: the entire U.S. A. This accident occurred around 9:45 AM -- at 6:00 PM (!) I came upon the area, well after dark. I asked a policeman, who was just standing there, if the road was closed. He rudely replied, "That's what this means!" and waved his arms off to the side. Of course, his waving arms couldn't be seen at night with a backdrop of flashing lights (DUH!)! So I turned onto a completely unfamiliar narrow dirt road, in the dark, and --guess what -- not a single DETOUR sign and not a single cop directing traffic where to go, anywhere!! It just took me an hour to find my way to my destination, originally minutes away. I hope NEVER to visit Loudoun County, Virginia again, if that's how they expect visitors to find their way, blindly in the dark with NO help whatsoever from the police.

  4. It was still closed at 8PM when I was driving home from work. There was no one there to help direct traffic. Just a police car (no idea where the officer was) and the road blocked. I got lost because - as mentioned - no one bothered to put up any detour signs and I had no idea where I was all turned around in the dark. Thank goodness I JUST upgraded to an iPhone that happens to have GPS.

I've lived around this area for 6 years and the one thing I've noticed is how friendly everyone is.
