Thru traffic will follow a posted detour (map):
- Traffic heading north on Gleedsville Road will follow detour signs to Gap Road, Route 15, Emerald Park Drive and back to Gleedsville Road.
- Traffic heading south on Gleedsville Road will use Emerald Park Drive to Route 15 to Gap Road to Gleedsville Road.
The new bridge will include two 11-foot lanes and two four-foot paved shoulders for pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge and approaches will be raised about two feet to improve hydraulic performance at the stream crossing.
According to a VDOT press release, "to keep with the scenic surroundings, guardrails will be made of weathered steel and concrete bridge railings will be designed to allow a better view of the stream. The project cost is $3.5 million."
VDOT plans to re-open the road by Aug. 26, just prior to the start of the new school year.
