Loudoun Supervisrs Approve Request to Rename Road

The Washington Post reports that the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to change the name of Bears School Road near Dulles International Airport to Carters School Road, at the request of Leesburg resident Christena Rose Martyn Fulcher.

Fulcher and her daughter Carolyn Lineberry have been advocating to have the road renamed for 20 years, county officials said in a statement.

Fulcher attended the one-room Carter’s School from 1930 to 1937 and wanted the road to have a historically correct name. Although there was a Bears School, it was several miles north.

Carters School Road (Route 857) runs south of Old Ox Road (Route 606) and borders the west side of Dulles Airport.
