Info Meeting Wednesday, June 5, for Signal Removal at 7/15 Bypass at Sycolin Road

This Saturday, June 8, the traffic signal on the Route 7/15 Bypass at Sycolin Road will be removed permanently. Once the signal is removed, traffic on the bypass will not have access to Sycolin Road, either north or south.

The Virginia Department of Transportation and the Shirley Contracting Company will hold a meeting at 7 p.m., tomorrow, Wednesday, June 5, at Cool Spring Elementary School in Leesburg to provide information about the project and alternate routes.

Access from the Bypass to Sycolin Road, the Leesburg Executive Airport, Loudoun County's Philip Bolen Park, the Loudoun County Voter Registration Office, and other destinations in the southeast sector of Leesburg will be routed via the Dulles Greenway or Route 7 to Battlefield Parkway. As a reminder, both Exit 1 (Leesburg Bypass) and Exit 2 (Miller Drive/Battlefield Parkway) from the Dulles Greenway are toll-free. A map outlining the new traffic patterns is online at www.loudoun.gov/sycolinroad.

Anyone planning to cast an absentee ballot for the June 11, primary on Saturday, June 8, at the Loudoun County Voter Registration Office on Miller Drive should be aware of the impending closure and look for detour signs. Saturday, June 8, is the last day to cast an absentee ballot in person for the primary. The Voter Registration Office will be open Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for absentee voting.

The intersection closure is necessary for the construction of the Sycolin Overpass. During construction, Sycolin Road will be closed from Gateway Drive to Hope Parkway. Construction is expected to last 14 months. The overpass will open in August 2014, restoring traffic on Sycolin Road between Gateway Drive and Hope Parkway. However, there will be no access to Sycolin Road from the Bypass or to the Bypass from Sycolin Road once the overpass is completed.

  1. Can anyone tell me why traffic on rt.15 north of Leesburg has been horrendous this past week? It took me 30 minutes to inch a half mile just now.
