Commonwealth Transportation Board Encourages Residents to Share Ideas and Comments

Area residents are invited to attend a public meeting to learn more about transportation improvements funded in the Six-Year Improvement Program (SYIP). The program allocates funding to a wide range of projects, including road, bridges, sidewalks, bike paths, rail and transit improvements across the state.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) is visiting localities throughout Virginia to share information and listen to what residents think about transportation projects. The current program (FY 2015-2020) is being adjusted to transition to a new prioritization process. This process will determine critical transportation priorities through a fair and objective analysis. Following the public comment period, the final revised program will be presented to the CTB for its adoption in November.

Comments are also encouraged on projects and programs to be considered for the next fiscal year's version (FY 2016-2021) of SYIP, which will be updated for the CTB's approval next June. Meeting materials are available at www.virginiadot.org/2014fallmeetings.

Loudoun County residents can attend any of the area meetings, however none will be held in Loudoun County. The nearest meeting for Loudoun residents will be held this Thursday, Oct. 16 at the VDOT Northern Virginia District Office, Potomac Conference Room, located at 4975 Alliance Drive in Fairfax.

The meeting begins at 5 p.m. with a local officials briefing, followed at 5:30 p.m. with open house displays and general discussion and a moderated public meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m.

If you cannot attend the meeting, you can send your comments on rail, public transportation and transportation demand management to Public Information Officer, DRPT, 600 E. Main St., Suite 2102, Richmond, Virginia 23219, or email DRPTPR@drpt.Virginia.gov; and on highway projects to Program Management Director, VDOT, 1401 E. Broad St., Richmond, Virginia 23219, or by email to Six-YearProgram@VDOT.Virginia.gov.

Comments will be accepted until October 30, 2014.
