The Virginia Department of Transportation announces that a third lane of westbound Route 50 will be opened Thursday night, Dec. 18, from Stonecroft Boulevard in Fairfax County to Pleasant Valley Road in Loudoun County. There will be temporary lane closures between 7 p.m. Thursday and 5:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, to complete the traffic shift.
The opening of the new lane means drivers will have three westbound lanes through the Virginia Department of Transportation's entire Route 50 widening project, which stretches from Route 28 in Fairfax to Poland Road in Loudoun.
The Route 50 widening project is scheduled for completion in November 2015. For more information, visit the project Web page at www.virginiadot.org/projects/northernvirginia/route_50_widening.asp.
