Sheriff's Office Investigating Hit and Run of Bicyclist in Paeonian Springs

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is investigating the hit and run of a bicyclist in the area of Paeonian Springs yesterday afternoon, Thursday, May 7.

The adult male victim was riding his bicycle on the Washington and Old Dominion Trail -- when shortly before 3:30 p.m. -- he crossed Simpson Circle near Route 9. As the victim was crossing the roadway, he was struck from behind by an unknown driver.

Based on the preliminary investigation it appears the vehicle turned onto Simpson Circle from eastbound Route 9 where the driver struck the bicyclist before leaving the scene.

The bicyclist received serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is asking for the driver of the vehicle to come forward to provide information regarding the circumstances of the crash by calling 703-777-1021. Any potential witnesses are asked to call Sgt. Robinette of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Section at 703-737-8374.
