Groundbreaking for Route 606 Widening Project

Loudoun County officials joined with representatives of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) today to break ground on the project to widen Route 606. The road is a critical link between Route 50, the Dulles Greenway and Route 28 in Loudoun County.

The project, which widens the remaining five-mile, two-lane section between Evergreen Mills Road and the Dulles Greenway, has been identified as a top transportation priority by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.

Under the partnership agreement for funding the project, VDOT contributes about $41.5 million, Loudoun County, approximately $41.2 million; and MWAA, about $25 million. MWAA has also contributed about 40 acres of land, valued at approximately $12 million, on which most of the widening is taking place. The total cost of the project is $107.7 million.

The design-build project is being delivered by the team of Shirley Contracting Company and Dewberry Consultants, LLC, and is expected to be complete in fall 2017. More information about the project is available on the VDOT website.
