Members of the Board of Supervisors, Loudoun County Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure staff, and contractors were among those on hand today, Tuesday, Oct. 18, for a ceremonial groundbreaking, marking the start of construction of a missing four-lane segment of Tall Cedars Parkway between Pinebrook Road and Gum Spring Road.
This project constructs a parallel road to Route 50, which will allow residents in communities, such as South Riding, Avonlea and Stone Ridge, to travel locally without having to drive on Route 50. The scope of work includes a four-lane roadway, an intersection and signal improvements.
Loudoun County will manage construction; however, once complete, the road will be turned over to the Virginia Department of Transportation for operation and maintenance.
Total cost for the road construction project is budgeted at $13,188,300. In July, the county awarded a contract for construction to Phillips Construction, LLC. The construction phase is expected to last for 18 months with completion of the road segment slated for spring 2018.
