Bad News for Dulles Greenway Commuters

According to Loudoun Extra, drivers are going to have to pay more to use the Dulles Greenway beginning Jan. 1. The $3 base toll on the privately owned 14-mile roadway between Leesburg and Dulles International Airport is increasing by 40 cents, and the rush-hour toll is increasing by $1.

According to the Extra, "The owners of the road, Toll Road Investors Partnership II, say they are increasing the tolls to help pay for building and maintaining it. Spokeswoman Ann Huggins-Lawler said rush-hour tolls are being boosted for the first time to encourage drivers to travel at less-busy times."

The Loudoun Times reports the base toll at the Mainline Plaza/Route 28, Route 606/Ox Road and Route 607/Loudoun County Parkway will increase by 40 cents to $3.40 for a two-axle vehicle. During defined congestion times, the toll at the Mainline Plaza, Route 606/Ox Road and Route 607/Loudoun County Parkway will increase $1 to $4 for a two-axle vehicle. According to the Times article, congestion times are:
  • Eastbound 6:30 a.m. through 9 a.m.
  • Westbound 4 p.m. through 6:30 p.m.
