Public Hearing Tonight on Loudoun's Countywide Transportation Plan

The Lououdn County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to a hold a public hearing on the Countywide Transportation Plan tonight, April 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the Loudoun County Government Center in Leesburg.

According to a recent Loudoun Indepenent article, "...the document, which is currently under revision, lays out an ambitious plan for Loudoun roads to include a litany of changes, such as the addition of high occupancy vehicle lanes to several Loudoun roads and the widening of many more. Besides being a guide, the document gives the county leverage when it asks a developer to help fund a new road when it requests to build along one mentioned in the plan.

Here are some of the highlights of the revised plan:
  • Explore the feasibility of a bicycle route that connects all of the county’s historical and cultural sites
  • Widen Route 7 east of Leesburg to eight lanes and add HOV lanes
  • Widen Route 28 from Route 606 to Fairfax County line to eight lanes and add HOV lanes between Route 7 and Fairfax County line
  • Widen Dulles Greenway to eight lanes
  • Add HOV lanes to Loudoun County Parkway and Route 606
  • Explore the possibility of having more crossings over the Potomac River
