Loudoun Board Approves Phase II of Metrorail Project

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has approved a Memorandum of Agreement on Phase II of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project which will expand Metrorail to Dulles Airport and Loudoun County.

The agreement approved last night (Tuesday) will lower the cost of the project by nearly $1 billion, includes an above-ground alignment for the Metro station at Dulles Airport, and outlines the funding mechanisms to be used for building parking garages.

Tuesday night's vote came after several months of discussions on how to build and finance the project.  The working group included representatives from Loudoun County as well as the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, Fairfax County, the Virginia Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Details of the agreement are online at www.loudoun.gov/dullesrail.
