Crews replaced the 77-year old bridge in a
little over two months to re-open the road in time for the new school
year. The new bridge includes
two 11-foot lanes and two four-foot paved
shoulders for pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge and approaches were
raised about two feet to improve hydraulic performance at the stream
crossing.
The total project cost was about $3.5 million. Fort Myer Construction Corporation was the contractor for the project. Visit
VDOT’s project page for more information.
