Dulles Toll Road New Rates Take Effect on Wednesday, Jan. 1

Hopefully Santa was good to you this year and brought you lots of quarters... or an E-Z Pass already loaded with lots of toll road trips since rates on the Dulles Toll Road are going up on Wednesday!

According to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, the toll rate for passenger cars at the Main Toll Plaza on the Dulles Toll Road will increase by 75 cents to $2.50. Toll rates at the on/off ramps will remain unchanged at $1.

Good news from the Airports Authority though -- No toll rate increase is planned for 2015.

According to a press release, the Authority says the increase is necessary for the Airports Authority to operate and maintain the Dulles Toll Road and to help fund construction of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.

Construction of Phase 1 of the Silver Line is nearing completion. Work on Phase 2 began in July, following a contract awarded in May to Capital Rail Constructors, a joint venture of Clark Construction Group and Kiewit Infrastructure South. The six Phase 2 stations will run from Wiehle Avenue in Reston to Route 772 in Loudoun County, including a station at Dulles International Airport. Construction is anticipated to be completed in 2018.

Under its agreement with the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Airports Authority assumed the responsibility to operate and maintain the Dulles Toll Road for a 50-year period beginning in November 2008.
