The Virginia Department of Transportation and Shirley Contracting Company are holding a "Pardon our Dust" meeting at 7 p.m., this Thursday, May 15, to discuss the status of the Route 7 Westbound Truck Climbing Lanes Project. The meeting will be held at Loudoun County High School, 415 Dry Mill Road, S.W. in Leesburg.
Project exhibits will be on display throughout the evening. The project team will make a presentation beginning at 7:30 p.m. and will provide a project overview, a status update, and information about construction and traffic, followed by time for questions and comments.
The purpose of the project is to improve safety and ease congestion along westbound Route 7 between West Market Street in Leesburg and Route 9 by constructing a truck climbing lane for slow-moving heavy vehicles. The project also includes reconfigured medians, new roundabouts on Route 9 at the Route 7 interchange to improve traffic flow, and relocating the Washington & Old Dominion Trail through the Route 9 interchange to reduce conflicts between trail users and vehicles.
Construction is expected to begin in late May or early June 2014 with completion expected in October 2015. More information is available on the VDOT project website at www.virginiadot.org/projects/northernvirginia/route_7_truck-climbing_lane.asp.
