  1. Subject: New Traffic Light - Request for Your Help‏

    Dear Friends:
My name is Michael Bolotin. I am 75 years old; a refugee from Russia (came to the USA in 1994). I am writing this letter to ask you for your help and leadership in finding an appropriate Government/State Agency and bringing their attention to a new innovative concept of the traffic light (United States Patent #7330130 *Apparatus for displaying the remaining time of a traffic light* Please open the Attachment and that link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94vjIhp0Tg4 ). Please help us to test it and allow this innovation to save American lives. I believe the proposed traffic light that pictorially displays the time remaining before the light/signal changes will significantly improve the traffic safety on the intersections and saves lives. This invention can be easily implemented by any Traffic Light manufacturer and in the field. The invention leverages the fact that the human brain is an "Analogue Computer" and all humans are having analogue visual perception, not digital (e.g. see http://www.nutramed.com/Philosophy/analog_computer.htm) and allows drivers intuitively see how much time they have left before light changes, and therefore make more informed decisions and prevent running on the red light. I believe that something is very wrong when each year number of American deaths on intersections with traffic light three times higher than our death toll in the War in Iraq. It is impossible to accept that all drivers in USA are not good drivers. I believe the reason of that terrible fact is hidden in the design of the traffic lights - their lack of ability to display the time remaining before the light/signal changes and that is where this innovation should and will help. Our goal is exactly the same as yours - save lives of American people, prevent injuries, and reduce car accident-related damages. As an old proverb goes: "If you save the life of one person, it is as if you saved the world entire." Please help us in finding and influencing appropriate governmental organizations to conduct comparative testing of the current and proposed new Traffic Light designs at the most dangerous intersections in USA. The results of such testing will allow making an educated decision regarding possible usage and recommendations for the proposed new Traffic Light concept, and potential replacement of the current designs.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
