Waxpool Road at 28 Will be Beneficiary of Federal Stimulus Money

According to media reports, Loudoun County will receive $6.325 million in its share of a $53 million federal stimulus package earmarked for regional transportation improvements.

"And at Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting, county transportation director Terrie Laycock said that Loudoun County would use $5.3 million of its share of the funds for upgrades toward the Waxpool Road at Church Road interchange," that according to the Loudoun Extra.

The Extra reports that the "rest of the money would go toward projects in the towns of Leesburg and Purcellville. Leesburg would receive $900,000 toward the first phase of the South King Street widening project. Purcellville would net $125,000 to upgrade the sidewalks that are part of the Maple and Main streets project. Improvements to the Waxpool Road bottleneck include the closure of a median break near Loudoun County Parkway, traffic signal modifications, extensions and additions of turn lanes and the installation of a variable message board."

The Loudoun Times also covered the story as well.

  1. If they would just build alternative routes through to 28 they wouldn't need longer turn lanes or a variable message board. That money would be much better spent on connecting Gloucester to 28 or Shellhorn to 606.

  2. I agree it would be much better if the county spend money connecting Gloucester to 28 or Shellhorn to 606. So they save half a million commuters time every day by at-least 45 minutes.

  3. We spent multi-millions of taxpayer dollars to remove the lights and improve traffic flow along Rt 28. Now traffic still backs up onto the toll road in the evenings. The problem, of course, is the stop lights on Waxpool Rd at the Broderick and Pacific intersections. When will VDOT learn the meaning of limited access roads? This isn't rocket science. The lights at Pacific, Broderick, and Loudoun County Pkwy should be lengthened to favor westbound traffic on Waxpool. When traffic backs up on side streets, so be it. Waxpool is now a major thoroughfare, there should be a wait to get onto it. If traffic moves once you get onto Waxpool, drivers should understand.
