Lane Closures Lifted This Weekend for Labor Day Holiday

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will suspend most road work during the Labor Day travel period.

VDOT will lift lane closures on most interstates and highways in Virginia from noon Friday, Aug. 30, until noon Tuesday, Sept. 3.

“I encourage all motorists to use the 511Virginia system to make informed choices as they travel around the state this Labor Day holiday and throughout the year,” said VDOT Commissioner Greg Whirley.

511Virginia allows users to view real-time traffic cameras and see estimated travel times, electronic message signs and traffic maps, which can help travelers plan their routes accordingly.


Northern Virginia HOV Schedule

High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) restrictions on Interstate 66, Interstate 95 and Interstate 395 will be lifted on Monday, Sept. 2. Normal HOV restrictions will be in place on Friday, Aug. 30, and Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Direction schedule for the I-95/I-395 reversible lanes: Lanes will be southbound from noon Friday, Aug. 30, until 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31. The lanes will re-open northbound by 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, and remain northbound through 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept 3.
